General dentistry in everyday practice

General dentistry covers the everyday work that keeps teeth and gums healthy: routine assessment, professional cleaning, conservative restorations, and early detection of problems before they become complex or costly.

At our clinic, general care is not separate from the rest of the practice β€” it sits on the same foundation of sterilization, documentation, and technology as implants, orthodontics, and cosmetic dentistry. When you need a specialist, your general records and imaging help us hand over care smoothly.

What general dentistry includes

These three pillars describe how we support patients from the first check-up through ongoing maintenance and, when needed, referral to the right specialist.

Prevention & education

Risk-based exams, oral hygiene instruction, diet and habit counselling, fluoride where appropriate, and recall intervals tailored to your gum health and cavity risk β€” so small issues are caught early.

Conservative treatment

Professional scaling and polishing, management of early gum inflammation, tooth-coloured fillings, replacement of worn restorations, and basic bite checks β€” always with an eye on preserving natural tooth structure.

Diagnostics & coordination

Intraoral photos, digital X-rays when indicated, intraoral scanning for study models or communication, and clear written plans. If you need orthodontics, implants, oral surgery, or advanced aesthetics, we explain options and coordinate the next steps.

What to expect at a typical visit

We start with your concerns and medical/dental history, then perform a clinical examination of teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissues. We discuss findings in plain language, show images or scans when helpful, and agree on priorities β€” whether that is a hygiene visit only, a small filling, monitoring, or further tests. Emergency pain or a broken tooth is triaged the same day when capacity allows, with interim relief and a plan for definitive care.

Services commonly provided under general dentistry

  • Comprehensive oral examination, risk assessment, and a written or verbal treatment plan you can understand
  • Professional scaling, polishing, and stain removal; personalised home-care coaching (brush, interdental cleaning, rinses)
  • Management of bleeding gums and mild gum disease in scope of general practice, with referral when specialist periodontal care is needed
  • Tooth-coloured (composite) fillings, repair of chipped teeth, and replacement of failing simple restorations where suitable
  • Pain relief and stabilisation for urgent problems (e.g. toothache, lost filling, minor trauma) β€” followed by definitive treatment planning
  • Digital radiographs and intraoral imaging when clinically justified; intraoral scanning for documentation, monitoring, or lab communication
  • Child-friendly and adult recall visits; family scheduling where possible
  • Coordination with orthodontics, implants, prosthodontics, or oral surgery when your case goes beyond routine general care

How often should you visit?

Many adults benefit from a dental check-up every six months, but your interval may be shorter if you have gum disease, heavy restoration, or high decay risk β€” or longer if you are stable and low-risk. After your first visit we will recommend a recall schedule and remind you what to watch for between appointments.

Visiting from abroad

If you are combining travel with dental care, general dentistry is often the right place to start: a full assessment, hygiene visit, and a clear picture of any work needed before longer specialist visits. Our team is used to explaining timelines, sequencing treatment, and answering questions so you can plan your stay with confidence.
